I know meditation is great for us, but I still struggle. I have ‘monkey brain’. It works quickly, chatters constantly and I struggle to quieten it.
In the elusive moments that I manage to find that peace during meditation it’s wonderful. Despite the fact I find it so hard, I preserve, sometimes alone, sometimes with a guided meditation.
If you struggle with meditation maybe you can try this instead. Next time you can go out for a walk, preferably somewhere relatively quiet and with nature and start by focusing on your breath.
1. Relax your shoulders
2. Take a couple of really deep breaths
3. Breath in for four slow counts and breath out for 8 slow counts
4. Repeat this for 10 minutes or until your mind feels a little quieter and then allow your breathing to return to normal. If things come into your mind don’t fight them but try to release them.
5. Focus on everything around you. Be really mindful. What temperature is the air? Is there a breeze? What can you hear? What can you see? Do this for at least 10 minutes or as long as you have.
If you try this, let me know how you get on!
