The benefits of mediation are well known, but when I first came across the idea I thought it wasn’t for me. My brain is SO busy that I thought there was no way I could keep it still enough to meditate.

However, I learnt that you didn’t need to be able to stop your brain to meditate. As I found out more I discovered that if you’re using meditation for relaxation there really isn’t a wrong way to do it.

It’s not about emptying your mind. It’s about seeking glimpses of stillness.

It can be as simple as closing your eyes and focusing on counting your inhalations and exhalations. Then each time you find your mind has run off simply bring it back, gently, to the counting.

It doesn’t matter how many times your mind wanders.

What matters is giving your body the opportunity to relax. So often when we talk about health we talk about nutrition, hydration or exercise, however this misses an important part of the puzzle – your bodies opportunity to recover. Sleep, rest and relaxation are all part of this.

If you’ve never tried before meditation can be helpful to do so as a group. The idea is that a group of people all log on at the same time (don’t worry it’s audio only so you can be wearing what you like) and use the power of the collective circle to spend a little time meditating. The aim is to run the meditation circle twice a month, sometimes as a silent meditation and sometimes with a guest teacher completing a guided meditation.
